Around Tabiano
Travelling time, amateur: 3 hours
A route of medium difficulty, dedicated to Tabiano, the “City of Breath”, its ancient village and the green hills in which it is immersed.
The route pays homage to Tabiano, the “City of Breath”, to its territory and its history, as it guides you up and down the hilly landscape, discovering paths and panoramic views that embrace all the surrounding valleys. The departure point for this excursion is the car park of the T-Club of Tabiano. Pedalling in the direction of the ancient village, you will reach the Terme Respighi, known for the excellent beneficial properties of its sulphurous waters. Continue up the dirt road as suggested by the track to get to the foot of the village of Tabiano Castello. The upper part of the village is characterised by walls built in the 12th and 13th centuries to defend the castle, whose origins date back to between the 10th and early 11th centuries. Continuing on, you will meet a small parish church, built in the Romanesque style of the 16th century and dedicated to the Saints Gervasio and Protasio. As you proceed on this path, you will take Boffalora road before leaving it shortly after to head towards Siccomonte. As you make your way down towards the valley and along Viale Fidenza, you will follow a path of dirt road, trail, and asphalt, surrounded by small, wooded areas and green hills. You will then pass through Siccomonte and Cogolonchio, retracing some stretches of the “Nature Trail” marked on the route. Continuing onto Variatico, after a couple of kilometres, the asphalt gives way to a double track that will lead you to Bargone road. There will be a little way downhill, giving you just enough time to catch your breath before you start uphill again. After a few metres on asphalt and dirt road again, you will find yourself surrounded by nature facing the path of the “Alpini”, a descent that will lead you to the main road in front of Camping Arizona and bring you towards Petrolifera road. Here a final uphill effort awaits you, leading you back to Tabiano Castello and then finally downhill towards the town of Tabiano. Before arriving at the car park, you can take the opportunity to refresh yourself in the Porcellini Park right in front of the Tabiano Spa. Finally, return to the T-Club to retrieve your car.

Highlights of the itinerary
Emilio Respighi Spa
Constructed at the request of the Duchess of Parma Maria Luigia of Austria, it was the first spa in Tabiano. The rationalist structure of the establishment was built after the war and named after Emilio Respighi, who was health director of the spa from 1887 to 1912.
Tabiano Castle
Built at the beginning of the 11th century, Tabiano Castle was one of the fundamental garrisons of the Pallavicino Marquises for the control of the salt wells of Salsomaggiore and Tabiano. After centuries of dispute, in the 1800s the castle was transformed into a private home and the centre of a farm.
