Contignaco Castle<\/p>\n

An ancient manor house for control of the salt pans<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Built around the 11th century by Adalberto Pallavicino, it seems that the well-preserved, over 30 metres high, main tower, dates back to 1030.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1623062684896{margin-top: 2% !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]First a fief of the Pallavicino family, in 1315 it was conquered by the Aldighieri<\/strong> family of Parma in order to control some salt pans in the area<\/strong>.
\nThe Aldighieri of Parma (later called “di Contignaco”) held it until 1537. Subsequently, the ancient castle changed owners several times, and the same building was also rebuilt several times. An illustrious guest stayed in its rooms: Dante Alighieri<\/strong>, who belonged to the same family as the Aldighieri.<\/p>\n

The castle is surrounded by beautiful specimens of oak, cedar, cypress and laurel trees. In particular, there is a majestic, centuries-old oak tree, with a trunk over two metres in diameter, at the entrance to the ancient castle. Today, the castle hosts events, weddings and guided tours, and is home to a farm that produces milk and wine.<\/p>\n

Historical Note<\/strong> – Not far away, the ancient manor of Gallinella stood, which had marquis status and was completely destroyed in the 19th century.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”8414″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1623062662555{margin-top: 7% !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
